High Desert Droplet - December 2017

Oh Christmas Tree…How to Get Rid Of Thee?

Dec 20, 2017 at 3:12pm

The presents are unwrapped, the leftovers are gone and all the decorations are safely back in their storage bins for another year. Before you throw that Christmas tree in the trash, check out these stormwater-savvy options!

After putting away the Christmas lights, the tree ornaments and our festive holiday pillows, it seems we never quite know how to “put away” the Christmas tree. Proper disposal or recycling of living Christmas trees limits pollutants entering our stormwater, leads to beneficial landscape compost, and provides DIY material for an impressive garden border. Here are some great Christmas tree disposal and recycle tips you can try this year:

  • Contact your local Waste Management Facility to schedule a curbside pickup of your tree. Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley
  • Cut the tree trunk into two-inch thick pieces to create a lovely wooden garden border.
  • Visit Modern Farmer for other Christmas tree recyclying ideas.
